Two workers with lived experience of disability required for service delivery of project supporting disabled people in Barnet.

Barnet, London

£25,000 p/a

Closing date: 08 August 2018

About the organisation

Inclusion Barnet is a Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation (DDPO), which means we are led by a trustee board with lived experience of disability.  Many of our staff are also disabled people.  Our strapline is ‘the power of experience’ because we believe in and value lived experience as a way of shaping and improving services.  We deliver a range of services, including some specifically for disabled people and others to contribute to inclusive communities – such as running two partnership libraries and leading on delivery of a local giving scheme.  We also have a track record in user led research, looking at issues such as management of DDPOs and optimal ways of delivering peer support.

Job Description

Two workers with lived experience of disability required for service delivery of project supporting disabled people in Barnet.

Do you work well in a team and understand the social model of disability?  Can you build and sustain relationships with customers based on mutuality and peer support?  Could you help deliver an empowering and person-centred new service for disabled people, ensuring people get the support they require to meet their goals?

The service will work with people long term where required, ensuring they’re linked into the right sources of advice and working with them to create plans for future needs.  As a Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation, we aim to work with people as equal partners to support positive change.  You will have your own lived experience of disability, a long term condition or mental health issues, and be able to use the knowledge that brings you to help other people overcome barriers and deliver an empowering service.

You may have experience in a related role, perhaps in the advice or advocacy sector, but you may come from a different sector, bringing a host of transferable skills, plus of course the ability to reflectively use your own lived experience to drive the quality of the work that you do with others.

The roles are 35 hours a week, based in our modern, open plan office in Barnet and Southgate College, Colindale.  The successful candidates will enjoy working in a Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation with an enthusiastic and friendly team of colleagues.

These are full time roles, but we are happy to consider candidates who wish to job share.  If you wish to job share, please indicate this, and the range of hours you would consider working, in your covering email.

Funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund. Fixed term contract to 31/07/21.

Inclusion Barnet is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) number 1158632.
